Official: US to continue interfering with Nord Stream-2

MOSCOW, Dec 10 (PRIME) -- The U.S. will not stop its attempts to disrupt Russia’s Nord Stream-2 project, it is part of Washington’s containment policy, Mariya Zakharova, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, told reporters on Thursday.

“We understand perfectly that the United States of America will not stop their attempts to prevent Russia from implementing not only this project, but also its foreign policy and international activity in general. We register that regularly and all the time. This is called the policy of containment of our country. This is a multi-component policy,” she said.

Sanctions, blacklists, restrictions against companies and business representatives, and other steps comprise this policy. Nevertheless, plans for construction of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline will not change, she said.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
